To my surprise, she was really receptive to the idea of an art class and complimented the quick examples I’d made. She left for a bit to round up some students, since it was their free time, and returned to direct me to the class.
Once inside the classroom I saw exactly what I’d anticipated yesterday. Sixteen students sat eagerly behind their desks. It’s the “highest level” class so they knew some English and understood and could follow directions. They did really well! I might try a more difficult project next class.
One of the girls kept calling me over, “teacher!” she would say. Then she would point out what she had done looking for my approval. At the end of class she handed me her painting. I asked if it was for me and she nodded yes.
The teacher helping me said that I should come in at a different time and for longer than a half hour. They want me to come in twice a week for an hour each! When I asked what days and times were best she said it didn’t matter, they would work the schedule around me. Well that was unexpected!
