About Gwen Kidera
I recently graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, MA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs and Environmental Studies. My primary area of focus throughout my studies was in the field of social entrepreneurship. I pursued this topic through a number of study abroad experiences in the Dominican Republic, Belize, and South Africa with the Social Enterprise Institute. Most recently, I spent a month as a teaching assistant in South Africa where Northeastern students, in a partnership with TSiBA, provided business consultation to local entrepreneurs and organizations.
I am an avid traveler and to date have visited over 25 countries including Canada, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, the Dominican Republic, Northern Ireland, Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Morocco, Kenya, and South Africa. I love planning trips and offering travel advice. I'm also a huge fan of CouchSurfing and try to CouchSurf as much as possible while traveling. I believe that you're really only a tourist until you experience the local perspectives of the country you're in. While traveling I enjoy taking photographs and pushing myself to seek out and document the beauty that surrounds me.
I started this website as a way to share my experiences living and working in Meru, Kenya in the fall of 2011 for the Miriam Kanana Mubichi Foundation. To learn more about my time in Meru, feel free to read my blog.
Since graduating, I have focused my efforts on the creation of The Photography League, an organization which provides tools for aspiring photographers to learn photography skills/concepts via collaboration.
